Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of football scholarships for his parents and a commitment to the community. His family's first name is Selmon is the eldest of nine kids raised in Eufala by Lucious Selmon. He was also one of three siblings who represented Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. In his time as the Oklahoma's quarterback of choice The Sooners recorded a 32-1-1 record and won two national championships. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975. He was also named as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon obtained a degree as an educator. Fourth-year service in the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. After graduation Lee Roy relocating to Tampa where he spent 9 years with Tampa's Buccaneers. There were three times, he was named an All-Pro. Lee Roy began his professional career. In 1988, as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa, he worked with Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated him as one of the 10 most notable young men across the nation. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch higher and weighing in at the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was a player, captained his team throughout 1975. In 1993, he became the associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame by the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as The Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. His parents, Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. were awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation.
